The monument, which is a grey granite obelisk on a two-stepped granite base, commemorates those who died in service or were killed in action in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved.

It was originally erected to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in World War One.  Those who died in service or were killed in action in World War Two were at a later date.

An Australia Remembers plaque is also affixed on the monument.
