Surrey Hills ShrinePrint Page
The Shrine was originally erected to commemorate those who served in World War One. The Shrine is distinctive in its bungalow architectural design and for the beautifully sculptured honour roll carved by local resident John Kendrick Blogg.
An additional plaque was placed in the Shrine to commemorate later conflicts and new panels were added to the honour roll in 2018 as part of restoration works by the Council.

Plaque:
Nerved by the magic of the trump of war,
Though all their lives had been to peace confess'd,
They blazed a glory track through practised foe,
And gained the laurels of a wond'ring world.
Their sires upraised their heads in lofty pride;
Their gentle mothers, loving, bravely stemmed
The swelling tide of grief, while exultation
Spring in joy to know their sons were men.
