The monument commemorates those from the district who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved. It was originally unveiled to commemorate those who served in World War One. Plaques were added to the base of the monument to commemorate later conflicts.
It is an obelisk of rusticated and polished grey granite on a two-stepped granite base.
BUNYIP - The town of Longwarry was en fete on the occasion of the unveiling of a memorial bearing the names of 110 soldiers from the district including 27 who have made the supreme sacrifice. The memorial is of Harcourt granite and 18ft. high. Addresses were delivered by Mr Mackey M.L.A. and Captain S. M Bruce. The unveiling was performed by Captain Bruce.
