The monument commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved.
It was originally erected to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in World War One with the names of those who died in service or were killed in action in World War Two added at a later date.
In 2004, a plaque was added to commemorate post World War Two conflicts.

This plaque is erected by the Romsey / Lancefield R.S.L. Sub Branch and is dedicated to the citizens of the District who served in the Great War. Their sacrifice epitomized Australian courage.
Their names live for evermore.
