The monument was originally erected to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in World War One.
A plaque was added at a later date to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in World War Two.
The memorial was unveiled by Dr Harris M.L.C in front of a large assembly on the 9th February 1923.
