The monument was unveiled on the 6th May 1920 by Lieutenant Colonel Williams to commemoratae of 14 soldiers who died in service or were killed in action during World War One. It cost £400.

Additional names were added to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in World War Two, and further plaques were added to commemorate those who served in later conflicts.
