The monument was originally erected to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in World War One.  An additional plaque was added at a later date to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in other conflicts. The monument was restored in 2006. 

It is a grey granite monument approximately 4.5 metres high consisting of a square base surmounted by an ornate domed roof resting on four pillars.
