A monument commemorates those who served in World Wars One and Two.
The Avenel War Memorial was unveiled by Colonel Langley on the 4th December 1920 originally to commemorate those who had served in World War One. The 'digger'' memorial originally stood at the head of Bank Street facing Queen Street but was moved to its present position.
Other plaques have been added to the monument to commemorate World War Two.
