The War Memorial commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved.  It was originally erected to commemorate those who served in World War One, and was unveiled by Sir Granville Ryrie on the 11th November 1921.

Additional plinths surround the monument and commemorate those who served with the Merchant Navy, the women of Australia, and those who served in all conflicts.

It is a stone monument with the statue of an Australian soldier resting upon his rifle. Four columns form the plinth for the statue with gilt name plates for both World Wars mounted on the flat internal faces.  It is set within a lawn area bounded by four plinths and a circular pathway.

The Lidcombe Park presented a gay spectacle on Sunday afternoon, when Major-General Ryrie unveiled marble memorial in honor of the fallen soldiers of Lidcombe. Despite the inclemency of the weather, a large crowd watched the ceremony, and listened attentively to the general`s address. The memorial takes the form of an Australian soldier standing with arms reversed, supported by white marble pillars. On tablets of dark marble are inscribed the names of the 400 volunteers from Lidcombe. The cost of the monument was over £1000, of which the council donated £250, the remainder being raised by public subscription and entertainment.
