The hall commemorates those  who served in World War One and World War Two. It was originally erected to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action during World War One. An extension to the hall in the form of a porch commemorating those who served in World War Two was unveiled on the 26th September 1947.

In 2020, World War One and World War Two Honour Rolls were placed in front of the hall.

Greenethorpe. The building of the Soldiers' Memorial Hall is to be started on June 4th. Much of the work such as providing the materials for preliminary operations will be done voluntarily, thus adding to the value of the subscriptions of those doing this work. The plan of the building, which is to be of brick, provides for a floor-space of 60ft. by 30ft , with a 13ft. stage. Two ante rooms each 15ft. by 14ft., will provide accommodation at the rear for the School of Arts and a committee room. Mr. R. K. Dempster has gladly consented to lay the foundation stone, which will bear the names of those who enlisted in this district for service at the Great War and paid the supreme sacrifice.

The official opening of the Greenethorpe Soldiers' Memorial Hall took place yesterday, a large number being present. The afternoon was taken up by a sports gathering, and the opening ceremony was performed prior to the tea, by the Mayor of Grenfell (Ald.Jno.Taylor), to whom Mr. Fisher presented a gold key. Mr. Taylor, in his remarks, referred to the great sacrifices made by the men from the District who fought in the Great War, not for honor and glory, but in defence of their country, the Empire and civilisation.
