Candelo War MemorialPrint Page
The War Memorial was originally erected to commemorate those from the district who served in World War One. Plaques were erected at a later date listing the names of those who had served in World War Two, the B.C.O.F, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
The memorial is a polished grey granite obelisk on a concrete base.
The unveiling of the Candelo District Soldiers Memorial on Sunday afternoon attracted the largest and most representative gathering we have seen in the local park. Cr J. P. Allen, representing the Shire Council, was pleased to have the opportunity of bowing his head in reverence for the men who had done their bit so nobly in the great war. The roll of honor showed how well the Candelo district had responded to the call. He paid a special tribute to those who had made the supreme sacrifice. President of the Memorial Committee, Mr J Scarvell unveiled the memorial.
