Bungendore War MemorialPrint Page
The monument commemorates those from the District who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved. It was originally erected to commemorate those from the district who served in World War One. There were 139 enlistments from Bungendore and District, 25 of whom gave their lives in defence of the Empire. The arch was built at a cost of around ₤1000.
The monument was rededicated on 11 November 1999, subsequent to an upgrade of the Rolls of Honour including the Second World War and later conflicts. The Boer War Roll of Honour plaque was added and dedicated on 29 May 2011. The Post Gulf War Roll of Honour was added and dedicated on 11 November 2011.
The memorial also includes a Field of Remembrance and Peace Garden.
In 2014, to commemorate the ANZAC Centenary, “ANZAC Centenary 2014-2018” and ”Gallipoli” bronze plaques were mounted on the right hand granite plinth of the Memorial, and dedicated on Remembrance Day 2014. Bronze plaques commemorating the Rededication 11 November 1999 were relocated to the Peace Garden.
