The wall replaces individual plaques originally placed at the foot of trees in a memorial grove planted in the vicinity in 1953.

This memorial is dedicated to the memory of servicemen from the Bega area who gave their lives in the service of their country during World War II and in the Korean Conflict.
Though they may rest on distant shores
Their names will live for evermore
