Kerry Memorial HallPrint Page
The hall commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved, and the early pioneers of the District.
The Kerry memorial hall building is now complete, with the exception of some of the interior furnishings and is now being primed and oiled in readiness for the official opening set down for December 14. A record crowd is anticipated, and the ladies have catering arrangements well in hand. The committee has hopes of the debt being considerably reduced by the opening date, and it will be pleased to accept, amounts for the opening fund. Several donations from £5 to £20 have already been received from local residents, and it hopes that others will follow the lead set. The memorial hall committee gratefully acknowledges a donation ot £300 from the Kerry Cathoiic Church committee.
Some months ago, at a meeting held in the Kerry school, the Kerry Catholic Church committee decided to do everything in its power to help with the building of the hall, as the same people were in a great part connected with the two projects. After various proposals were considered. Father Steele referred the matter to His Grace, Archbishop Duhig, and His Grace replied that he would approve of any arrangements made by the Church committee. Eventually, at a meeting held at the Presbytery early in October, members of the committee present decided that £300, which was covered by their combined donations to the Kerry Church building fund, be donated to the Kerry Hall fund. The hall committee acknowledges its appreciation of this gesture of goodwill from the Kerry Catholic Church building committee.
