The black granite wall commemorates those from the District who served in war and peace time from the South African (Boer) War to Afghanistan. The wall is named in honour of Harry Murray a recipient of the Victoria Cross during World War One.

The wall lists the names of those connected with the district who served in the conflicts. The reverse of the wall is dedicated to all those who served in World War One and features an etching of Harry Murray as well as details of his wartime service.  The wall was originally placed beside the War Memorial but photos taken in 2021 show that it is now behind the War Memorial.

Henry William "Harry" Murray, VC, CMG, DSO and Bar, DCM (1880 – 1966) was an Australian recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest decoration for gallantry "in the face of the enemy" that can be awarded to members of the British and Commonwealth armed forces.

Decorated several times throughout his service in World War One, Murray rose from the rank of private to lieutenant colonel in three and a half years. He is often described as the most highly decorated infantry soldier of the British Empire during World War One.
