The War Memorial commemorates those from the district who served in conflicts in which Australia has been involved. The memorial was originally unveiled in Memory Park in 1927 to commemorate those who served in World War One.

The memorial was relocated to Gloria Park in 1994 and the original plaque removed and replaced with the present plaque which commemorates later conflicts. Individual plaques to service personnel are located at the rear of the memorial.

On Saturday last, at 3 p.m., the formal unveiling of the Hazelbrook Soldiers' Memorial, in Memory Park, took place in the presence of a large gathering of residents and visitors, including a number of returned men. Cr. P. Wilson, patron of the Hazelbrook branch of the R.S. & S.I.L.A. presided. Proceedings opened with the singing of the National Anthem. Rev. H. McWilliam offered prayer, after which the hymn, "O God, our Help in Ages Past," was sung. Captain-Chaplain H Green delivered the dedication speech in eloquent terms. He referred to the declaration of the Armistice, which occurred while the unit to which he belonged (he did not become a Chaplain until after the Armistice) was moving up to the front line. The revulsion of feeling, he said, was so great that men could not trust themselves to speak, feeling that If they did so they would break down completely. This Memorial was a reminder of our soldiers' bravery and sacrifice, and of the ideals for which they died, and should continuously remind us to uphold those ideals and bring them to realisation. He referred especially to the ideal of brotherhood which had been so strong in time of war, but which it seemed so easy to lose when peace came. Finally, he referred to the many in our midst maimed, crippled or otherwise still suffering in body or mind the effects of war service and said the Memorial would make us remember our duty to help them and make their lives brighter and more bearable.

Rev. J. B. Penman, President of Hazelbrook Progress Association set out shortly the origin of the Memorial and the means by which the funds were obtained. The unveiling was then performed by Mrs. E. A. Burgess an old resident of the town who sent three sons to the front one of whom was killed in action. Wreaths were placed on the Memorial the first by Mrs. A. W. Smith. The Last Post and Reveille were sounded by Mr. F. Adams and the ceremony concluded with the formal handing over of the Memorial to the B M Shire Council which body was represented by Cr. J. F. McManamey, deputy president. The dignified and solid character of the structure is a great credit to Mr. R. J. Paterson of Katoomba who created it. He is to be complimented on the quick work he put in to have it ready for the appointed day.
