Gladstone Methodist Circuit Honour RollPrint Page
The wooden honour roll commemorates those connected with the church who served in World War One and World War Two.
There was a crowded congregation at the Gladstone Methodist Church on Sunday evening last. Not all present could be accommodated in the church and many were seated in the vestry. The honour roll of solid polished maple 5ft. 9in. x 5ft. 6in., contains two removable panels of Gothic design, one for the names of those members of the denomination in Gladstone Methodist Circuit who enlisted in the war of 1914-18, and the other for those who have gone, and are yet to go, to prove their loyalty in the greater conflict which commenced in 1939.
It was made by Mr. Frank Farrer, of Belgrave Street, Kempsey, and is already inscribed with 59 names. The roll was draped with the Union Jack and Australian Ensign. Mrs. F. Towers was organist, assisted by Mr. R. Bone, of Jerseyville. Mr. MacDonald was the soloist, his contributions being "There's a Land, a Dear Land" and "Oh, Love That Will Not Let Me Go." The honour roll was unveiled by Mrs. R. Williams, of Yarrahappini, with the words: "In unveiling this honour roll I dedicate it to the glory of God and to the honour of the boys whose names are inscribed thereon," while Mr. MacDonald led the ceremony of commemoration as the returned soldiers in the congregation stood to attention.
