The Cross of Sacrifice commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved.

Wallsend sub-branch of the R.S.L. will ask all members to attend the ceremony of unveiling the Cross of Sacrifice by the Governor (Lieut.-General Sir John Northcott) at Sandgate War Cemetery at 11 a.m. on April 8. The Secretary (Mr. R. Hodgson) told the Management Committee that the Cross of Sacrifice was symbolic of crosses that marked the resting places of comrades in arms in all parts of the world. Messrs. A. J. Somervaille and H. i. McGregor, Secretaries of Waratah-Mayfield. and Shortland sub-branches, advised that the usual Anzac Day commemoration service would be held ih conjunction with the unveiling ceremony. They asked that ex-service personnel assemble at the corner of Wallsend and Maitland Roads to march to the cemetery.
