The pine tree commemorates 100 years of service and sacrifice by Australian men and women and marks the launch of the Tasmanian Centenary of ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) commemorations 2014 -2018.
The Centenary of ANZAC 2014 to 2018 was an important period of national commemoration for Australia. Marking 100 years since our involvement in World War One, the ANZAC Centenary was a time to honour the service and sacrifice of our original ANZACs, and the generations of Australian servicemen and women who have defended our values and freedoms, in wars, conflicts and peace operations throughout a Century of Service.

2014 - 2018
The Centenary of ANZAC commemorates 100 years of service and sacrifice by Australian servicemen and women in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations since World War One.
On 18 October 2014 this Lone Pine tree was planted by His Excellency the Hon. Chief Justice Alan Blow OAM, Lieutenant Governor of Tasmania, the Hon. William Hogdman MP Premier of Tasmania, the Rt. Hon. the Lord Mayor of Hobart, Alderman Damon Thomas, Major General Steve Smith AM, CSC RFD and Private Duncan Cantrell.
This tree marks the launch of the Tasmanian Centenary of ANZAC commemorations 2014 - 2018 and the day the 12th / 40th Battalion, the Royal Tasmanian Regiment, exercised its right to Freedom of Entry to the City of Hobart.
