The cenotaph commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved. It replaces the original memorial stone.

Cenotaph committee members decided not to have details of those who died in service or were killed in action from Tamborine Mountain etched onto the cenotaph, as names could not be added in the future.

The cenotaph came about as a result of long-term combined effort from the Scenic Rim Regional Council, Tamborine Village Lions Club and the Memorial Hall Committee.
