The monument commemorates those who undertook National Service between 1951 and 1972. The completed monument was rededicated on the 2nd April 2006.
Between 1951 and 1972, a total of 287,000 young Australian men were called up in two separate schemes for compulsory training in the Navy, Army and Air Force. Of them, 212 died on active service in Borneo and Vietnam. National Service was part of Australia’s defence preparedness for three decades.

This memorial is dedicated to Australia`s 325,811 national Servicemen who served in the Navy, Army, Air Force 1951 to 1972
During the 21 years period that covered the two post-war National Service Schemes, 187 National Servicemen paid the ultimate sacrifice with some 1479 wounded during their service.
Erected by their comrades of the York Sub-Branch, the National Servicemen`s Association of Australia Western Australian Branch Inc.
