Aborigines of Port PhillipPrint Page 
The plaque commemorates Aborigines killed in their contact with sailors and others in the first European exploration and settlement of Port Phillip Bay. The plaque was unveiled during the 150th anniversary celebrations of the State of Victoria held in 1984 -1985.

Source: VMR, RHSVIn memory of Aborigines who were killed or wounded during the first British visits to Port Phillip Bay under the command of Lieutenant John Murray in 1803.
This was a breach of official British policy which was to avoid conflict with Aborigines. At least one Aborigine, Bunja Logan, still bore old gunfire wounds when permanent settlers came to Port Phillip Bay in 1835.
