Rhonda Thorne Oval

This oval was named in honour of Rhonda Thorne (nee Shapland) who began her squash career in Toowoomba. She was World Open Ladies Champion in 1981 and ; runner-up in 1983; Australian Open Champion in 1981 and Queensland Open Champion from 1978 to 1982. 

She won ten other State / Regional Campionships both in Australia and overseas.  She was an Australian Open representative for the period 1977 to 1984 and during 1981 / 84 ; Queensland Open representative for seven years to 1983; and Team Captain for the period 1978 to 1983.

Rhonda was named Queensland Sportswoman of the year in 1984.
