Charles BrownlowPrint Page Print this page

The plaque commemorates the Geelong residence of Charles Brownlow.

Brownlow began playing for the Geelong Football Club in 1881, whilst also working as a watchmaker, jeweller and silversmith. Due to work commitments he resigned as a player midway through 1884, but occasionally pulled on the boots until 1890.

Brownlow went on to become the Geelong Football Club's secretary for more than 30 years. After his death in 1924, the Victorian Football League decided to award an annual medal in his honour to the competition's best and fairest player - the Brownlow Medal.
