South African (Boer) War MemorialPrint Page
The fountain commemorates those from the District who served in the South African (Boer) War.
It was originally situated in a memorial park flanked by four small cannons and bounded by an iron palisade fence. It was moved to its current site some time in the 1930s.
A committee of ladies has a fund of £95 17s 10d towards the erection of a memorial fountain in honor of St. Arnaud’s soIdiers who took part in the Boer war. It has been decided to invite applications for designs for a fountain, the cost of which is not to exceed £l00, Sir W. Bray, sen., guaranteeing to contribute the balance to make up that amount.
