An obelisk commemorates the fifty-seven enlisted and fallen members of the Bairnsdale Rowing Club, who served with the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) in World War One. The memorial was relocated and rededicated in 1995.

About 200 people were present at the official opening of the Bairnsdale rowing season on Saturday. During the afternoon a monument erected on the hillside adjoining the club house to the memory of the 18 Bairnsdale rowers, who died in the Great War, was unveiled by Hon. E. Lind (Minister for Lands), who is a former Bairnsdale rower. Fifty-seven members of the Bairnsdale club served with the A.I.F., and 18 were killed.
