Dear Monument Australia visitors, we are a self-funded, non-profit organisation, dedicated to recording monuments throughout Australia. Over time the costs of maintaining this website have risen substantially (in fact they are probably larger than those of many companies who exist for profit). In the past we have borne all the costs associated with maintaining the website but we are now having difficulties in paying the monthly expenses.
If Monument Australia is useful to you, please make a donation to keep this historical and educational resource available. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Drayton War MemorialPrint Page
The Drayton War Memorial was erected by the residents of Drayton and District in remembrance of those residents who died in World War One. A plaque was added to the memorial at a later date to commemorate the fallen of World War Two and Korea.
The unveiling and dedication of Drayton and District Fallen Soldiers Memorial on the 28th June 1924 attracted a large gathering. Accompanying Lieutenant Colonel Fortescue, who unveiled the monument was Lieutenant W.H.Hilless area officer of the 25th Battalion which provided a firing party with Captain N.G. Hatton in charge. After the unveiling ceremony three volleys were fired by the trainees and "The Last Post" was sounded.
