Centenary of Mates Department StorePrint Page
The sundial commemorates the centenary of Mates Department Store from 1850 to 1950.
In 1850 Thomas Hodges Mate decided to open a general store in Albury and as his emporium prospered he expanded as a wholesaler and had a bonded store. At first his store housed the post office and telegraph office but they moved to other premises in 1862.
