40th Anniversary of Badja Road CompletionPrint Page
The plaque commemorates the 40th anniversary of the completion of the Badja Road. Braidwood Community Bank provided $1000 towards the plaque.
Gordon Pike was the engineer on the council from late 50s for many years, who with John Horne and Cr Jim Dempsey pushed for the road to go through. The route had been looked at since 1860s, and the first track was pushed though in the mid 60s by engineer Gordon Steven and dozer driver Felix ‘Chook’ Kain. Not long after, the London to Sydney Marathon came through in 1966. It took a number of years to build the road and get the funding, which was eventually finished and officially opened in 1974.
