James (Scotty) BurnettPrint Page
The headstone over the grave commemorates James (Scotty) Burnett who drowned while trying to cross the River Light in August 1846.
James Burnett travelled with horse and cart through the District, buying and selling goods for station workers. He also worked as a shepherd on Baker and Newland`s station. His popularity saw the tombstone and fence erected by station workers. The tombstone and fence were erected after an appeal in 1885 and it was subsequently repaired several times.
