The park commemorates Kevin Taylor (1928 - 1959) who was born and lived to adulthood on the 160 acre property around this site.
Kevin was born on 3rd June 1928 to Alexander Christie Taylor and Phoebe Jane Verrall. The family owned the original farm which stretched from Uley to Craigmore roads. Alexander brought the land in the 1920’s and all his children where born there and went to Smithfield Primary School.

Kevin was the youngest child. He and his wife and two children were killed in 1959 when their car and a truck collided in NSW as they were visiting another brother. When Alex died in 1956 the land was sold to the Housing Trust.
The name was proposed by Kevin’s sister, Olive Tabe in 1991.
