Patrick Vernon GriffinPrint Page
A plaque commemorates Patrick Vernon Griffin (1930-1944), a pupil of the school who died in 1944.
Patrick Griffin was born in 1930, one of two sons of Jack Rodger and Helen Griffin of 'Wattle Banks', near Deloraine. Patrick and his brother attended the Launceston Church Grammar School as boarders and in the few years of his attendance Patrick was a good scholar and was highly regarded by all.
At home for the Christmas holidays, Patrick met with an accident while climbing over a wooden fence. The splinters were embedded deep in his leg and he died from tetanus on January 1st 1944..
In his memory a subscription was opened at the school to purchase a memorial, and brass plaque on a wooden base was placed in the school chapel.
