The Peter Hearnden Memorial Oval commemorates Flight Lieutenant Peter Hearnden who died with five other Flight Lieutenants (Alec Young, Reg Jones, Marty Burke, Don Gow and Pete Dunbar), when all four of the Vampires of the Red Sales crashed during a practice display in August 1962 near the Dutson Bombing Range.
