1981 - 2002

Leading Seaman Gurr was tragically lost at sea from HMAS Darwin whilst on operations off Christmas Island, on 4 May 2002. The search conducted was unable to locate any sign of him.  Leading Seaman Gurr was a loyal sailor and dedicated to his service in the Royal Australian Navy.  His loss was a tragedy for his family, friends and shipmates.

 A young life cut short.

This plaque is dedicated to the memory of Leading Seaman Gurr by his family, the Chief of Navy and the men and women of the Royal Australian Navy, and the community of Christmas Island on 9 September 2003.

Wherever a beautiful soul has been beautiful memories remain.
