The monument commemorates Krystal Schmidt who drowned in the flooded Barcoo River in 2004.

Rescue crews have found the body of a 10-year-old girl who was swept away in a flood-swollen river in the Queensland's central-west late on Friday. Krystal Schmidt had been playing with friends when she was sucked into a pipe under a bridge in Isisford.

Police Constable Ian Skinner says the girl's body was found this morning downstream in the Barcoo River. "She was found a short distance from the weir where she had gone missing," he said. "The town, as you can imagine, is taken aback by the whole incident and it's been a community effort and the ... local SES [State Emergency Service] and SES from nearby towns have all joined in with the search and put in a lot of effort."
