The boat ramp commemorates Kevin Doyle for his contribution to water sports in the Northern Territory. He was accidently killed at Lake Argyle in August 1978.
Kevin Doyle was employed as a manager of the Darwin Land Services. He took up water skiing in 1970 and was the main force in supporting a move by boat owners for the construction of a ramp to allow boats to be launched at all tide levels. He was killed in a boating accident on Lake Argyle, Kununurra (Western Australia) before the ramp was completed.
