The plaque commemorates Australian speedcar racing champion Jeffery Freeman (1937 - 1965.)

In March 1965, he won the Australian Speedcar championship, two months before the sport claimed his life at the Westmead Speedway, Parramatta. Freeman’s short but spectacular career significantly raised the profile of the sport, and he was admired for his style on the track. Off the track he was an unpretentious champion, known for his accessibility to fans, good humour and generosity.

The Woollahra Council Plaque Scheme honours exceptional people or events associated with our local government area, that have made a significant impact on life in the area or Australia as a nation.
