The plaque commemorates Garry Brabham who initiated the Premer Cricket Weekend in the 1980s.

The cricket weekend 7 -aside was the brainchild of Premer Public School principal Garry Brabham in the late 1980s. Mr Brabham got the ball rolling with publican Iris Sing, Reg Gardner and Stuart McCleod. The grounds were cleared and pitches were laid to pave way for countless runs and fun times.

Many celebrities including Doug Walters, Merv Hughes, Len Pascoe and jockey Malcolm Johnston all created memories as well as coaching the cricketers of the future in the school grounds.

The cricket weekend was cancelled indefinitely by the Premer Lions Club in 2015 (its 25th year of operation) due to the behaviour of some players and spectators.

Dedication

Front Inscription

Dedicated to Garry Brabham

From all those who knew Garry

A mountain of a man, with a vision never to be forgotten

A declaration of Garry`s innings, far too early.

Premer Cricket Weekend was Garry`s vision.

A memory of grandeur that is present and will always remain when cricket is played at Premer.

Your sad passing is this community`s loss.

Now cricket is played in heaven.
