Dedication
RHONDA THORNE OVAL
This oval was named in honour of Rhonda Thorne (nee Shapland) who began her squash career in Toowoomba. She was World Open Ladies Champion in 1981 and ; runner-up in 1983; Australian Open Champion in 1981 and Queensland Open Champion from 1978 to 1982. She won ten other State / Regional Campionships both in Australia and overseas. She was an Australian Open representative for the period 1977 to 1984 and during 1981/84; Queensland Open representative for seven years to 1983; and Team Captain for the period 1978 to 1983.
Rhonda was named Queensland Sportswoman of the year in 1984.
