The Plaque commemorates Noel Stanley Bayliss who was Professor of Chemistry at the University of Western Australia from 1938 to 1971. His main interest was spectroscopy but he was also involved during the 1940s with investigation of the chemistry of alunite clay as a potential source of potash and alumina.
