Reverend Robert Alexander RedmondPrint Page
The monument commemorates Reverend Robert Alexander Redmond who died in 1911.
Widely regarded for his oratory, Reverend Redmond could move an audience to laughter and tears, and they would come again and again to listen spellbound as he preached. His eloquence is believe to have contributed to the record fundraising effort of ₤200 for extensions to the original 1898 sandstone church in Leura. In fact such was the popularity of his sermons that even after the Leura church was enlarged to twice its original size, it was often unable to accommodate the overflow congregation that flocked to his services.
Note : The date given in the inscription on his memorial is actually the date of the death of Reverend Redmond.
