The marble tablet was erected by friends to commemorate Reverend William Pascoe Crook (1775 - 1846) who died in Port Phillip, Melbourne on the 14th June 1848.
Reverend Crook was a Missionary in the Marquesas and Society Islands and was one of the founders of the Benevolent Society in Sydney and was for many years a deacon at Pitt Street Uniting Church.

Born In Devonshire, England, on the 29th April, 1775.
Died at Melbourne, Port Phillip, on the 14th June, 1846.
