The headstone erected at the grave, commemorates the Reverend John Richard Pugh who died in 1891. Reverend Pugh was pastor of the Baptist Church at Plattsburg.

The remains of the Rev. Mr. Pugh were yesterday conveyed from his late residence, Harriett-street, Plattsburg, to the General Cemetery, Sandgate. There was a large attendance, including a number of reverend gentlemen, from all parts of the district, and many of the gentle sex, who followed the remains to their last resting place, and thus paid the final tribute of respect to a dear departed friend.
