The plaque commemorates Thomas Riding, a preacher at the Methodist Church for 56 years, who died in 1937.
Mr. Thomas Riding, who had resided in Bulimba for more than 50 years, died in the General Hospital after a long illness. He was 78 years of age. With his wife Mr. Riding came to Queensland as a young man. For 37 years he was employed as a turner by Evans, Anderson, and Phelan, Kangaroo Point, and later by the Wilson Engineering Company, Elizabeth Street, city. He was one of the oldest local preachers of the Methodist Church in Queensland, and had passed through all chairs of the Commonwealth Tent of the Independent Order of Rechabites. His wife, a daughter, and two sons survive.
