The memorial was erected over the grave in memory of Reverend William Hogan, the parish priest at St Finbar`s Ashgrove who died in 1945. 

The Rev. Father W. Hogan, parish priest of St. Finbar's, Ashgrove, died in the Mater Hospital yesterday, after an illness of several months. Father Hogan was born in County Tipperary, Ireland. He studied first at the local national school, then at Mt. Mellary Seminary, and finally at St. Kieran's College, Kilkenny, where he was ordained priest in June, 1920. He arrived in Brisbane in 1921, and served first in the parish of Rosalie, and later at St. Stephen's Cathedral. In 1924 he was appointed to the charge of Ashgrove parish. A solemn requiem mass will be held in St. Stephen's Cathedral tomorrow at 10 a.m.
