COMMEMORATIVE PLAQUE SHEPPARTON
UNITED FREE METHODIST CHURCH,
TANK CORNER
In 1877 the first service of the United Free Methodist Church was held at Pine Lodge, and to assist members of that faith in the region a wooden church building was constructed at Tank Corner (then a district named for a prominent water tank).
This was in 1878, the site being to the south side of where the railway line crossed the road.
The original church stood until c.1905, when it was sold for removal, and replaced by a new church built in brick.
One notable feature was this tablet, which was placed in the church to commemorate Mrs. Lorinda Roe, one of its leading founders.
Prior to the church being built, services were conducted at private homes in Pine Lodge and Tank Corner.
