The altar of the church commemorates Father Daniel Walsh who was the parish priest from 1887 to 1939.
The Rev. Father Daniel Walsh, who died in Brisbane yesterday, aged 81, had been parish priest at Gatton since 1887. He was born at Castlequartir, County Cork , Ireland and received his ecclesiastical education at St. Colman's Seminary, Fermoy, and at the college of St. Sulpice, Paris, where he was ordained priest in 1886. Father Walsh desired to be buried among his people at Gatton, and thus, after the Requiem Mass at St. Stephen's Cathedral at 9.30 a.m. today, the body will be taken to Gatton.
