The Lamps, placed in the church by parishioners, commemorate Reverend William St John Chase, rector of the parish, who died in 1912. 

CLERGYMAN'S DEATIH. The Rev. William St John Chase, rector of Picton (Diocose of Sydney), who died a few days before Christmas, was a son of the late Canon Chase, prominent in Melbourne some thirty years ago. Mr Chase, who was fifty years of age, was says the "Church Standard" ordained by the Bishop of Melbourne in 1891 and had worked in several Melbourne parishes and at Bendigo and Echuca. He had also served curacies in the Diocese of Sydney, and had been rector of Kangaroo Valley for three years prior to his appointment to Picton in 1910.
