The wooden carving, atop a marble font, commemorates Charles Sidney Smith; a former curate of the church from 1890 to 1894 who died in 1900. 

Sydney January 17.  The death was announced at Strathfield yesterday morning of the Rev. Charles Sidney Smith, in his 43rd year. He was a native of Sydney and took his degree at Christ Church College, Oxford, in 1879. Up to a few years ago he acted as curate of Christ Church, Sydney, since when failing health has prevented his assuming active duties.
