The plaque commemorates Private Edward Lawrence Edwards who died while a prisoner of war in June 1943 during World War Two.
Pte Edward L. Edwards, son of Mr and Mrs Charles Edwards, of Eddington, died while a prisoner of war on June 2, 1943. Pte Edwards, who was aged 29, was the first man to enlist from Eddington. He served in the Middle East, and was taken prisoner when the Japanese invaded Java. Before the war he worked on his father's farm.
